Around the state of Alaska there are several advocacy organizations for our fisheries. Their work ranges from safety initiates for crew to supportive legislation that protects the future of our industry. Becoming a member and staying involved in your regional organization is the best way to ensure your voice is heard.

1) Alaska Independent Tendermen’s Assocition (aita)

Serves: State wide; tender vessel owner and operators

Mission: Promote and protect the common business interest of its membership while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality in what we do.

2) Alaska Longline fishermen’s association (alfa)

Serves: State-wide; Long line gear and IFQ

Mission: Support science-based fisheries management through collaborative research, advocacy and innovation. We work to safeguard ocean health and improve the economic viability of small boat fishing.

3) Alaska Trollers Associaiton

Serves: State-wide; Troll gear

Mission: To preserve, promote, and perpetuate the fishing industry in Alaska. To that end, we work for conservation, sound management, good public policy, and safety at sea for the general welfare and mutual benefit of all.

4) Cordova district fISHERMen United (CDFU)

Serves: Management Area E (Copper River/ Prince William Sound); all gear types

Mission: It is our mission to preserve, promote and perpetuate the commercial fishing industry in Area E and to further promote safety at sea, legislation, conservation, and management.

5) Kenai Peninsula Fishermen’s Association (KPFA)

Serves: Cook inlet area; set net, drift net and purse seine

Mission: Represent the interests of commercial fishermen before the Alaska Board of Fisheries, North Pacific Fishery Management Council, and have played a major role keeping our fishery biologically and economically sound.

6) NORTH PACIFIC FISHERIES ASSOCIATION (npfa)

Serves: State-wide; all gear types

Mission: Provide a source of information for fishermen and an entity through which their concerns may be addressed in fisheries related issues. We are working hard to preserve and protect Alaska's commercial fisheries for generations to come.

7) Southeast Alaska Fishermen’s Alliance (SEAFA)

Serves: Southeast Alaska; all gear types

Mission: maintain and enhance the sustainability of the resource and the longevity of the commercial fishing industry and coastal communities.

8) Southeast Alaska Seiners (SEaSA)

Serves: Southeast Alaska; purse seine permits and associated businesses

Mission: To balance the interests of all the users of our healthy Tongass so that seiners can harvest their historical and rightful share of the salmon resources in the waters of Southeast Alaska.

9) United Cook Inlet Drift Association (UCIDA)

Serves: Management Area H; drift gillnet permits

Mission: Enhance and perpetuate the interests of this valuable commercial salmon fishing industry.

10) United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA)

Serves: State-wide; all gear types

Mission: To promote and protect the common interest of Alaska’s commercial fishing industry, as a vital component of Alaska’s social and economic well-being.

11) United southeast alaska gillnetters associaiton (USAG)

Serves: Southeast Alaska; gillnet permits

Mission: Promote and protect the interests of our members by active involvement in legislation that affects the gillnet fishery as well as offering a vessel insurance program.
